The Arnold press is a dumbbell overhead press with a rotation built in: you start with your palms facing you at shoulder height, then twist the weights to face forward as you push overhead, reversing the turn on the way down. That added rotation sweeps the front, side, and rear delts into a single movement, so one press touches all three heads of the shoulder instead of hammering just one — which makes it a favorite for well-rounded shoulder development and for the mobility and control the twist demands. It's the more complete but more technical cousin of a straight dumbbell press. The trade-offs come from that same rotation: it asks for decent shoulder mobility to do smoothly, it can nag the wrists and elbows if you rush or force the turn, and it's simply more to coordinate than a plain press. Keep the weights moderate, let the rotation flow rather than snap, and stay controlled top to bottom. As a shoulder builder that also grooves rotation and mobility, it earns its place.
