The good morning is a hip hinge done with a barbell on your back, named for the bowing motion it looks like — you bow forward from the hips until your torso approaches parallel, then return to standing, loading the hamstrings and lower back through the stretch. Unlike a deadlift, the weight sits high on your back rather than in your hands, which puts a direct, humbling demand on the posterior chain and teaches a strong hip-hinge pattern with real feedback: a little weight goes a very long way here. That makes it a favorite for building hamstring and lower-back strength and for reinforcing the hinge that underpins your deadlifts and pulls. It's also flexible, working with a loaded bar or just bodyweight for practice. The caution is serious and worth repeating: a back that rounds under load risks a lower-back injury, and the heavy spinal demand isn't for everyone, especially those with back issues. Start light, keep your back flat and knees soft, and add weight slowly. Respected, it's a potent posterior-chain builder.
