Cable Pull-Through

The cable pull-through is one of the best ways to learn the hip hinge while training the glutes under constant tension. Facing away from a low cable with a rope between your legs, you let the weight pull your hips back into a hinge, then stand tall by driving your hips forward and squeezing the glutes at the top — a movement powered by the glutes and hamstrings, with the cable keeping steady tension through the whole range and almost no load stacked on your spine. That combination makes it a standout teaching tool: beginners can feel what a proper hinge is supposed to be, and everyone gets a glute-focused stimulus without the back fatigue of a deadlift. It's also gentle enough to slot in as high-rep accessory work. The limits are honest — the absolute load stays fairly light, so it's not the tool for peak strength, and it needs a cable machine with a rope attachment. Hinge from the hips, not the knees, and finish with a hard glute squeeze rather than leaning back.
