The barbell wrist curl is the most direct way to train the forearm flexors — the muscles on the underside of your forearm that drive your grip. Seated with your forearms resting on your thighs and your hands hanging off the ends of your knees, you let a barbell roll down toward your fingers and then curl it back up using only your wrists, since everything above them is pinned in place. That isolation is the point: nothing but the wrists move, so the flexors get worked directly, which builds the grip strength that quietly limits your deadlifts, rows, and carries. Resting on both thighs lets you train both arms evenly at once. The things to watch are that overusing wrist flexion without training the extensors can feed forearm imbalances, careless or bouncy form can strain the wrist joint, and holding clean position takes a little practice. Let the bar roll to the fingertips for a full range, curl under control, and pair it with reverse or extensor work. For grip and forearm size, it's a staple.
