The face pull is the shoulder-health movement most lifters need and few do enough of. Using a rope on a high cable, you pull the handles toward your face while rotating your hands outward and back, hitting the rear delts, upper traps, and rotator cuff — the small, often-ignored muscles that keep the shoulder joint healthy and pull your posture upright. It's the counterbalance to all the pressing and screen-hunching that rounds the shoulders forward, which is why coaches prescribe it so widely: it evens out shoulder development and helps keep the joint durable so your bigger lifts stay pain-free. It doesn't build show-off size on its own, and that's fine — it's a health and balance investment. The main things to get right are form and tempo: the wrong pattern can strain the shoulder, and the coordinated pull-and-rotate takes a little practice to feel. Go light, lead with your elbows high, and pause at the back. Few movements do this much for how your shoulders feel and hold up.
